Organyà

On May 26th, 1233, Count Roger Bernat de Foix and Berenguer de Cellers, the prior of the collegiate church of Organyà, signed a partnership through which they agreed to a condominium over the village of Organyà. This obliged the prior to compensate the count with half of his jurisdictional rights over the new village of Organyà, which was constructed at that time, and the count to defend it from any possible aggression. The conflict and disagreement over the domain of the village had stemmed from ancient times, with regard to the priors, and more specifically from the foundation of the religious community at the church of Santa Maria, in 1090, which had been promoted by Bernat Guillem and endowed by Guitard Isarn de Caboet. This resulting overlap of jurisdictions, between the lords of Caboet, on one side, and the church of Organyà, on the other, led to conflicts with the Foix family, as the descendants of the Caboets, and to the need to iron out the differences between the two sides through the condominium.
