The capital of Alt Urgell, La Seu d'Urgell, is an important road communications hub, with the link between the Pirinenc (N-260) and Segre (C-14) axes and the access road in Andorra (N-145), currently the only one from Spanish territory.

The accesses to almost all population centers with more than ten inhabitants are paved.

There is a regular bus service that connects the region with the rest of the territory of Catalonia and Andorra.
La Seu d'Urgell-Andorra airport, located in the municipalities of Montferrer and Castellbò and Ribera d'Urgellet, operates commercial flights to Madrid and also hosts general aviation and emergency flights.
There is no railway service and the nearest station is Puigcerdà (La Cerdanya).
