Montferrer i Castellbò

Pere de Cadireta, Bernat de Travesseres and Ponç de Planès were the inquisitors of Castellbò. The former was the general inquisitor and was appointed by Ramon de Penyafort. Amongst other events, he was involved in the sentencing of Ramon de Josa, who was accused of being a Cathar, and also of Arnau and Ermessenda of Castellbò. In 1273, he founded the Dominican convent at La Seu d'Urgell, where he was prior and continued to fight against heretics. This caused a degree of resentment and resulted in the death of Pere de Cadireta and Ponç de Planès, by stoning. Bernat de Travesseres is the man about whom least is known. Legend has it that he was also killed at Castellbò, by being stabbed to death with a sword.
