Valls de Valira

A Romanesque church dating from the 11th century which has undergone major transformations. Today, it has a single nave, headed at its eastern end by a semi-circular apse covered by a half-dome vault that opens onto a short, pre-apse, section. Access is via the west wall, opposite the high altar. The portal, which is in the centre of the façade, has a lowered, voussoired arch. Above this, there is an oculus. It has a bell tower above the southern half of the apse, which has an octagonal cross-section, which is clearly from a later period. An image of the Virgin Mary was venerated in this church, but it disappeared during the Spanish Civil War. It retained its status as a parish church until 1980, but now depends on the parish of Civís.
